Meet Kate and Mary, Working with residents to TRansform lawned areas into a beautiful public garden.

Kate Drummond and Mary Redmond are two Glasgow based artists who have been working with local residents, Peel Waters, Glasgow City Council and Propagate, to transform and reimagine a lawned area in Glasgow Waters into a public garden filled with beautiful planting and repurposed quay-stone plant beds and seating on the waterside.

In this reflection, hear directly from Kate and Mary about how they designed the Clydeside Garden to reflect its shipyard heritage whilst also creating a community garden space for residents to socialise and wildlife to flourish in, and why having access to waterside spaces and feeling connected to the River Clyde is so important.

ABOUT OUR PARTNER: Clydeside Garden

Clydeside Garden is an open-access public garden created on ‘meanwhile’ land at Glasgow Harbour, which is part of the emerging Glasgow Waters district. The garden has been built by the community and features unique nods to the heritage of the land, such as the stones that form the infrastructure of the garden space are the original quay stones from the Anchor Line harbour and Meadowside Shipyard that once operated from this site on the River Clyde.

Regular community planting days take place that are advertised on the Clydeside Garden Instagram and Facebook pages.
