Work begins at Liverpool Waters as Wyld evolves its community-led sauna experience with expanded facilities and inclusive programming

Wyld Sauna has announced that work is now underway on a major expansion at Princes Dock, Liverpool Waters, as the UK’s first floating sauna continues its commitment to community, accessibility and connection.

Since launching in November 2024, Wyld Sauna has quickly established itself as one of the city’s most unique destinations, welcoming thousands of guests to experience hot and cold therapy on the waterfront.
Now Wyld is growing, and this next phase comes directly from listening to the people who use it, with work set to complete in early summer.

It marks the biggest step forward for the site so far, shaped by what people have actually asked for – making Wyld more than just a place to sauna, but somewhere people feel comfortable and included.

The current floating sauna is located outside No.12 Princes Dock Liverpool Waters

The expanded site will support a broader programme of sessions designed for and curated by Liverpool’s diverse communities. This includes dedicated sessions so everyone can enjoy the space as they would like.

From focusing on building safe spaces for LGBTQ+ groups to fighting the loneliness epidemic with events catering to over-60s, a clear emphasis on care is showing to be Wyld’s driving factor. Alongside these programmes, Wyld plans to host regular women-only and silent sessions.

This expansion further cements that Wyld is more than just a business in Liverpool but a hub for the community where everyone is welcome and can enjoy it the way they see fit.

One of the UK’s first fully wheelchair-accessible saunas

As part of the redevelopment, the original floating sauna, now a signature part of Liverpool’s waterfront, will be refurbished and upgraded in line with the new facilities. Benches will be improved, flooring will be changed, new cold plunges brought in and upgrades to the sauna heaters will be made for more consistent and powerful heat delivery. The whole space will be re-optimised and given a bit of love for this next phase of Wyld in Liverpool.

A key focus of the redevelopment is improving accessibility and becoming one of the UK’s first fully wheelchair-accessible saunas. This includes the installation of a lift to improve access to the dock, alongside considered internal design to support guests with limited mobility.

Fresh pastries and high-quality coffee, fresh juices, authentic Neapolitan pizzas and natural wines

Policies such as companion passes will also be introduced where capacity allows, aiming to build a space for everyone, guided by those who need these changes most.

In keeping with Wyld Sauna’s growth mindset, the team is also introducing a new “Board of Culture”; a collective that will help guide the future direction of the space, ensuring it continues to reflect the needs and voices of the community it serves.

More opportunities for guests to relax, refuel and connect

While the expansion work takes place, Wyld Sauna’s current facilities will remain fully operational, with the team committed to keeping disruption to a minimum. Guests will be given advance notice of any temporary closures if required.

Alongside the expanded sauna offerings, Wyld Sauna will introduce a considered food and drink offering. Starting with fresh pastries and high-quality coffee in the morning, it will evolve throughout the day into a tailored pre and post-sauna menu, including fresh juices and authentic Neapolitan pizzas paired with natural wines, creating more opportunities for guests to relax, refuel and connect.

Jon Miller, Co-Founder of Wyld Sauna, explained: “Wyld was never meant to be just a sauna, it’s about creating a space where people feel welcome, included and connected. This next phase is all about listening to our community and responding in a way that’s meaningful. From the facilities to the programming, every decision has been intentional. We want to create something that genuinely reflects the people who use it and the city it belongs to.

“The team and I want to say a big thank you to everyone who’s supported us and provided feedback along the way – we’ve felt your patience, and it’s helped shape what comes next.”

To support the next stage of development, Wyld Sauna continues to work closely with Peel Waters, the regeneration specialists behind Liverpool Waters.

Liza Marco, Senior Asset Manager at Liverpool Waters, said: “Wyld Sauna has become such a special and unique part of Liverpool Waters, not only because of the quality of their offer, but because their values align so closely with our own. Their focus on wellbeing, inclusivity and community has created a truly welcoming space on the waterfront, and it perfectly complements Peel Waters’ ambition to bring forward innovative, memorable and meaningful experiences for the people who live, work and visit here.

“We’re incredibly proud to support Wyld as they take this next step in their journey. This expansion represents a natural evolution of their concept – elevating the design, enhancing the amenities and delivering even more opportunities for connection and wellbeing on the water. Working with forward-thinking businesses like Wyld and supporting them to grow is a key part of our aspirations for Liverpool Waters.”

Further details on the expanded facilities and full programme will be announced in the coming weeks.
