New Chatham Waters Care Home Officially Opens Its Doors
Purpose-built care facility complete with sauna, gym, hair and beauty salon, entertainment suite and resident’s rooftop garden now ready to welcome residents as latest milestone in waterfront regeneration
A new purpose-built care home has officially opened at Chatham Waters, bringing high-quality residential and respite care to Medway and marking another significant milestone in the transformation of the former docklands into a thriving waterfront neighbourhood.
The 75-bed care home has been developed by Montpelier Estates Limited and is now managed and operated by Chatham Waters Care Ltd.
The opening of the new care home will create 70 jobs once fully occupied
Located at the centre of Chatham Waters, a major regeneration project led by Peel Waters, the new care home has been carefully designed to provide a modern, welcoming environment. The home offers en-suite shower bedrooms and a range of amenities including an entertainment suite, gym, café bistro, sauna, hair and beauty salon and rooftop garden overlooking the waterfront.
The opening of the new care home will create 70 jobs once fully occupied, spanning care, hospitality, wellbeing and operational roles. To date 25 employees have been recruited with further opportunities becoming available as resident numbers grow.
designed with dignity, wellbeing and meaningful connections in mind
Boda Gallon, Director at Chatham Waters Care Ltd, said:
“We are incredibly proud to officially open the doors of Chatham Waters Care Home and begin welcoming our first residents.
“Our vision has been to create a home that combines exceptional care with outstanding facilities, enabling people to live fulfilling and independent lives in a warm, supportive environment. Every aspect of the home has been designed with dignity, wellbeing and meaningful connections in mind.
“We are excited to become part of the growing Chatham Waters intergenerational community and look forward to supporting residents and their families for many years to come.”
The development generated more than £10.6 million in social value and almost 1,000 people benefited from educational outreach activity
The project has already delivered significant benefits to the local community throughout its construction. A social value report has revealed the development generated more than £10.6 million in social value, exceeding its original target and supporting a wide range of educational, employment and community initiatives.
Working closely with Waterfront University Technical College, the project delivered weekly site visits for students, provided T-Level placements, supported careers events and contributed towards a new school minibus. In total, almost 1,000 people benefited from educational outreach activity linked to the development, while 46 weeks of apprenticeship placements were completed during construction.
What makes this development particularly special is the impact it has already had beyond the building itself
James Whittaker, Managing Director at Peel Waters, said:
“The opening of Chatham Waters Care Home is a proud moment and another important step forward in delivering our long-term vision for Chatham Waters.
“Partnership has been fundamental to the success of this project. Through close collaboration between Peel Waters and Chatham Waters Care Ltd we have delivered a fantastic new facility that will serve both existing and future generations of residents.
“What makes this development particularly special is the impact it has already had beyond the building itself. From supporting local schools to creating employment opportunities and delivering significant social value, this project demonstrates the lasting benefits that regeneration can bring to local communities.
“We are incredibly proud to see the care home now open and welcoming residents as Chatham Waters continues to grow into a vibrant, inclusive waterfront destination.”
To date, more than £150 million has been invested into Chatham Waters and delivered significant infrastructure improvements
The opening follows the successful completion of neighbouring residential developments including X1 Chatham Waters, and Legal & General Affordable Homes’ Cavalier Court and Long Harbour’s The Kell – both of which were developed by Peel Waters. Together, these developments mean more than 700 homes have now been delivered at Chatham Waters, with over 1,000 people now calling the waterfront neighbourhood home.
To date, more than £150 million has been invested into Chatham Waters and delivered significant infrastructure improvements, including more than £7 million of highway improvements, flood defence works and land remediation. The regeneration has also created more than 800 jobs, delivered 237 affordable homes alongside hundreds of additional homes for rent and sale, a large ASDA Superstore, Marston’s family pub and restaurant, retail space, extensive public realm and the Waterfront University Technical College, which specialises in STEM-focused education linked to construction and engineering.
The opening of Chatham Waters Care Home represents the latest chapter in the continued growth of the waterfront community, providing high-quality care provision while creating new employment opportunities and helping to ensure residents can enjoy exceptional living at every stage of life.
