PLANNING SUBMITTED: DAVID LLOYD LEISURE UNVEILS PLANS TO CREATE A NEW HEALTH, FITNESS AND WELLNESS CLUB AT WIRRAL WATERS
David Lloyd Leisure, Europe’s leading health, fitness and wellness group, has submitted plans for a brand-new club at Wirral Waters, one of the country’s largest regeneration projects.
The proposed club, which will create up to 100 new jobs upon completion, marks a significant step in the development of the area and forms part of David Lloyd’s ongoing expansion strategy.
The planning application has been officially submitted to Wirral Council, with the proposed site located in Peel Waters’ Bidston Dock site off Wallasey Bridge Road, in the heart of the Wirral Waters regeneration area.

State of the art facilities
Covering an impressive 6 acres, the new club will offer a wide range of state-of-the-art facilities, including:
Three weather-protected tennis courts
Six canopy-covered padel courts – making it the biggest padel facility on the Wirral
Heated indoor and outdoor swimming pools
An indoor Spa and an outdoor Spa Garden
A sports hall with two indoor courts
A new state of the art gym
A children’s play area
A vibrant cafe lounge
creating positive communities
David Lloyd Leisure is passionate about making its Clubs a comfortable and welcoming place for members to come together with friends and family to promote physical and mental health and wellness.
The Group is committed to creating positive communities both inside and outside of its clubs and will explore opportunities to develop local community partnerships. David Lloyd Leisure has made a commitment to become carbon neutral by 2030 and the new Club will incorporate the latest in sustainability technology to ensure it operates as efficiently as possible.
The new club will be located close to major transport links, including the M53, the Mersey Tunnel, and Birkenhead North train station, making it easily accessible to people across the Wirral. Currently, the nearest David Lloyd clubs are in Cheshire Oaks (Ellesmere) and Speke (Liverpool), so the new Wirral Waters location will provide a much-needed addition to the area.
Generating jobs
In addition to the anticipated 100 jobs once the club is open, the construction phase is expected to generate around 60 jobs, offering further employment opportunities to the local community.
The Wirral Waters site is part of a broader strategy to accelerate new club openings across the country, with additional sites recently confirmed in Gloucestershire and Buckinghamshire.
For the Wirral Waters regeneration project, this proposed David Lloyd fitness club is a major milestone in the creation of a new leisure focused destination in the Bidston Moss area. The addition of this facility will help transform the area into a vibrant hub for residents and visitors to enjoy.
bringing world-class facilities to Wirral Waters
Richard Mawdsley, Director of Development at Wirral Waters, said: “Having a market leading operator like David Lloyd Leisure bringing world-class facilities to Wirral Waters is hugely exciting and a real game-changer for the area. David Lloyd’s commitment to sustainability and the jobs they will create for local people also make them an ideal development partner.
“We have long term plans to create a leisure-led, mixed-use destination in the Bidston area, and this is just the start.”
Stuart Caswell, New Clubs Acquisition Director at David Lloyd Leisure commented: “We are delighted to be part of the future for Wirral Waters. Our plan is to construct a state-of-the-art health and wellness Club that not only enhances the area and creates a range of new jobs and opportunities for the local community, but also reflects the needs of people living in the area”.
