Community-led floating sauna project enters exciting new phase following green light from planners

Wyld Sauna, the UK’s first public floating sauna and one of Liverpool’s most distinctive wellness destinations, has officially secured planning approval for the expansion of its facilities at Princes Dock, Liverpool Waters.  The announcement marks a major milestone for Wyld as it prepares to elevate its offering in response to direct feedback from the local community. Since launching in November 2024, Wyld has welcomed thousands of guests seeking the mental and physical benefits of hot and cold therapy in a unique dockside setting. Now, following months of engagement with guests, reviews, and community consultation, Wyld is set to grow.

CGI Wyld Sauna Expansion

NEW SAUNA, NEW SPACES, SAME COMMUNITY SPIRit

At the centre of the expansion is the construction of a custom-designed 16-person floating sauna, purpose-built to accommodate the rising demand for private hire, group bookings, retreats, and corporate wellness sessions. The new sauna will provide more flexibility and space while preserving the calm, design-led aesthetic that has made Wyld so popular.  But Wyld’s next phase goes far beyond private sessions. The expansion enables the introduction of tailored programming for Liverpool’s diverse communities — including new women-only and men-only sessions, faith-friendly booking times, LGBTQ+ inclusive slots, and sessions specifically for over-50s.

The new weekly schedule will also feature:

Silent or whisper-only sessions for mindfulness

Community-led social hours

Guided rituals such as breathwork, sound baths, and aromatherapy ceremonies

These additions are rooted in Wyld’s founding principle: to build spaces that are inclusive, healing, and shaped by the people who use them.

Wellness on Water: A Year-Round Programme with Liverpool’s Leading Facilitators

As part of Wyld’s expanded offering, the team is proud to launch Wellness on Water — a year-round programme of movement, mindfulness, and connection delivered on the dockside and within the floating sauna itself.  This evolving schedule of sessions will be led by some of Liverpool’s most inspiring wellness practitioners, including:

Barry’s Liverpool, combining high-energy HIIT and strength training with sauna recovery to reset and rebuild.

Cal from Barre with Cal, bringing dynamic, low-impact strength and balance sessions to the waterfront

Aoife from Sweat to Social, delivering energising, community-driven workouts followed by social sauna recovery

Charlotte Watson from The Wellness Space, offering breathwork, meditation and reflective practices for grounding and calm

Alongside these standout facilitators, Wyld will continue to platform local talent throughout the year — from sunrise yoga and pilates to cold-water exposure workshops, evening sound baths, guided aromatherapy rituals, and more. Wyld’s aim is to create a vibrant and inclusive wellbeing calendar, where movement meets community in a setting that’s as powerful as it is peaceful.

Upgraded Guest Experience: Designed with Feedback in Mind

The expansion will also deliver a number of long-requested upgrades:

Private quayside changing cubicles

New outdoor showers with product-friendly rinsing options

Permanent toilets and dockside infrastructure improvements

A new quayside café and generous outdoor seating to relax, connect, and enjoy the view

“The last nine months have been an incredible start for Wyld, and we’ve been listening closely to our community every step of the way,” said Jon Miller, Co-Founder of Wyld Sauna.  “Guests asked for more space, more privacy, better facilities and more varied sessions — and that’s exactly what we’re delivering. Everything we’re doing is about bringing people together through nature, heat, cold and connection.”
